about

recorded with Justin Mikulka in his basement circa 2002. this song was meant to be either a knotworking song, or something for an album I was writing entitled 'Wolves in the Hay' - then 20,000 bands came out with Wolf in their names, and I decided to trash it

lyrics

Butterfly boots on a two-timing sailor
wolves in the hay when his anchor's aweigh
She keeps coming 'round with her two-gallon jars
Take what you need, and leave what you can't believe

Don't want to stay there no more.

His cup overflows, he pours the drops on her fingers
Succulent cacti pokes out the cat's eye
The catfish are crawling on both sides of bed
Taking up posts to ward off her ghost

Don't want to stay there no more.

The white-sailed ships, they all pass by her window
Trainman, wait, won't you hitch up her gate?
She keeps coming 'round with her two gallon jar
Take what you need, and leave what you can't believe

Don't want to stay there no more.

The songs also meditate some on divisions within larger communities and between neighbors - all an attempt to summon the gumption & fortitude we must muster to bridge those gaps.
